ONLINE ENTERPRISE EXPANDS INTO SHOP PREMISES

Lincoln couple Faye Isaac and Aron Breen have shown their faith in the future of High Street shopping by investing in a “bricks and mortar” move.

Banks Long & Co have leased the pair – who have already built-up a successful online enterprise – a double-fronted shop unit in the city’s Grantham Street.

And, having changed the name of the business to Annual (from Abacus Kids), Faye and Aron have ambitious plans to offer parents a place where they can enjoy family activities as well as buy continental clothing and more for their children.

Faye (who is originally from Grimsby) and Aron, a graphic designer and DJ from Lincoln, have moved from The Terrace in Danesgate to premises formerly used by a photographic business.

“I started out in 2011 buying and selling vintage clothing, but that market became saturated. It was whilst looking for individual clothing and toys for our daughter Nell (six), that I discovered some alternative educational children’s magazines, and I decided to start selling these and other items online,” said Faye.

She then went on to add design-led, eco-friendly wooden toys, books, interiors items and finally, brands of children’s clothing from independent designers from around the world.

“Social media channels, including Instagram, where I have over 24,000 followers, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, have played a major role in helping me to grow the business organically,” said Faye.

“But a large percentage of our customers’ are currently based in the London area.  I have also managed to attract a few customers to visit us at The Terrace, but that was mainly on an appointment-only basis and that base was used for packing online orders.

“We had been thinking about having a physical shop, so when I spotted the Grantham Street premises, we felt they were ideal and would allow us to develop the business further.

“We now have a great space for not only displaying everything from toys to books and clothing, but a place where we can run events, such as screen printing, art and other fun workshops and somewhere which could become a social hub for families.”

Banks Long & Co Surveyor Harriet Hatcher said: “We are pleased to have let this spacious unit to Faye and Aron. It is in a great position, just off the main upper High Street.

“It is also a good size, which fits in with the couple’s plans for growing their niche business. We wish them well for the future.”
