Lakeland to join Lincoln’s Cornhill Quarter

Lakeland is set to join a stellar line up of names in Lincoln’s £70 million retail and leisure development

Lincolnshire Co-op has announced Lakeland as the next exciting brand to take space in the major Cornhill Quarter development in the heart of Lincoln. The quality kitchenware chain will take 4,000 sq ft of space in one of the newly refurbished Sincil Street shops/units currently under development.

Lakeland is one of the UK's home shopping pioneers offering a collection of creative kitchenware, practical ideas for cooking and cleaning, and inspiring gifts from all over the world. From everyday utensils and preserving basics, to never-seen-before cookware; it prides itself on providing a range of products which will be long-lasting and offer great value for money. Lakeland is relocating from its current unit at St Marks shopping centre to 32 Sincil Street, taking a larger space.

This latest letting follows on from news at the end of last year that Everyman cinema will open a four screen cinema in phase three of the development, which recently received planning permission. Everyman will be located opposite the Corn Exchange building, which completed in October 2017 and is home to Cosy Club, Flying Tiger Copenhagen, Moss Bros and Thomas Cook.

Phase two of the redevelopment which includes the unit for Lakeland will deliver 23,000 sq ft of retail space, as well as a bright, attractive walkway through to the multi-storey car park. The timber frames for the shop fronts and windows along Sincil Street are being handmade locally by Lindum Joinery, to provide traditional shop fronts in keeping with the original Victorian street scene.

Construction for phase two is progressing well with timings on track for completion before Christmas 2018.

Tim Bradford, Managing Director at Banks Long & Co, one of the joint agents responsible for letting the scheme, alongside KLM Retail said:

Lindum Joinery General Manager Paul Brown commented:

“The workshop team are working from the architect’s drawings, which have been produced following extensive historical research and using photographs recovered from the early 1900s as a starting point.

“Producing these traditional shop fronts and window frames is a fascinating job and we would love the chance to do more of this kind of work.”
